Silk & Shadows

Silk & Shadows is a wedding planning and coordination team based in Portland. We’re Ava and Sasha, and between the two of us we plan, coordinate, decorate and officiate weddings all over Oregon and Washington. We started Silk & Shadows because we genuinely love weddings, especially the ones that don’t feel like they came out of a template. Over the last few years that has taken us everywhere from historic mansions and hotel ballrooms to restaurants, farms, orchards and completely empty fields where every table, chair, tent, light and drop of running water had to be brought in. We’ve had weddings with llamas, horses and very determined dogs, ceremonies in pouring Oregon rain, surprise performances, complicated family traditions and décor plans involving a frankly ridiculous number of candles. We’re very hands-on, which means once we take over a wedding, we’re not standing in a corner watching the timeline. We’re talking to vendors, setting things up, moving things around, finding missing people, fixing whatever decided to go wrong that day and keeping all of it as far away from the couple as possible. Sasha also officiates, which comes in especially handy when one of us needs to be focused on the ceremony while the other is already making sure the reception is ready. Our favorite weddings are the ones that actually look and feel like the people getting married. They can be dark and dramatic, colorful and chaotic, very traditional or not traditional at all. At the end of the day, our job is to make sure all the work you put into planning it turns into the wedding you were picturing, while you get to be there for it instead of managing it.
